The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has officially affirmed Thomas Tyolumun Unongo, son of the Second Republic Minister of Steel, Wantaregh Paul Iorpuu Unongo, as its senatorial candidate for the Benue North-East Senatorial District ahead of next year’s general elections.
New Telegraph reports that Unongo would lock horns with former Governor of the state, Chief Gabriel Suswam, who also won the Benue North East Senatorial District primaries of the APC.
The affirmation of Unongo took place in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, where party stakeholders, supporters and leaders from across the seven local government areas of Zone A were drawn from.
Speaking at the event, the state PDP consensus governorship candidate, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN), charged party members to remain united and committed toward reclaiming Benue State for the PDP in 2027.
The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice described PDP as the most credible platform capable of restoring hope to the people and assured residents of Sankera that peace and development would return to the area if elected governor.
Chairman of the three-man electoral panel for Zone A, Hon. Timothy Terlumun Ikyer, formally received Tyolumun Thomas Unongo from PDP chairmen across the seven local government areas before affirming him as the party’s authentic candidate for the senatorial election in Zone A.
The PDP Zonal Chairman, Hon. Abraham Waroh, commended party members for their overwhelming turnout and commitment to the party during the primaries.
Unongo, in his acceptance speech, thanked the PDP leadership and members across Zone A for the confidence reposed in him, stating that he accepts the nomination with gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility.
He pledged to remain committed to the success of the party and the advancement of the people of Zone A.
Unongo also expressed appreciation to the immediate past Governor of Benue State and leader of the PDP in the state, Chief Samuel Ortom, for his continued support, leadership and commitment to the party.
Unongo assured the people that if elected Senator in 2027, he would work towards restoring peace and promoting development across Sankera and the Benue North-East Senatorial District.
