The outgoing Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, lauded the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in the state, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and orderly.
This is as Sanwo-Olu publicly endorsed his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, who emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking after casting his vote alongside his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at Ward E3, St. Stephen’s (WAEC) School on Lagos Island during the direct primary election, Sanwo-Olu said the atmosphere at the polling unit remained peaceful despite the large number of party members who participated in the exercise.

He said the exercise reflected the democratic culture of the APC and commended party members for the impressive turnout recorded across wards in the state.
“It has been calm, peaceful and family-like. You can see the enthusiasm of party members who came out to participate in the process,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor disclosed that about 1,810 party members participated in the primary election in his ward.
Sanwo-Olu further expressed confidence that Hamzat would emerge victorious in the APC primary and go on to win the governorship election.
He also commended the APC national leadership and party officials in Lagos for organising what he described as a transparent process.
Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Alade Folawiyo, also applauded party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise and described the turnout as impressive.
Folawiyo said Hamzat possessed the experience and leadership qualities required to govern Lagos State effectively.
He added that continuity in governance would help sustain ongoing infrastructural projects and security improvements across the state.
“I am so happy that people can see it in the people’s mouth. I see the kind of enthusiasm and happiness in the face of everybody in this ward,” he said.
