Tourism, Hospitality Can Drive Nigeria’s GDP Growth

A chartered accountant and Chairman of Treal Hotels and Suites, Mr Adebayo Fagbenro, has described tourism, culture, and the hospitality industry as viable sources of revenue capable of boosting Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

Fagbenro made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday by DAL Strategic Communication ahead of the inauguration of Treal Hotels and Suites in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He said Ogun State is richly endowed with tourism potential and cultural heritage sites that could attract both local and international visitors if properly developed.

He stated, “The era of overdependence on oil revenue is gradually fading. Tourism and hospitality remain viable sectors capable of creating jobs, stimulating economic growth, and improving the nation’s revenue base. Government must begin to see the sector as a strategic economic driver.”

Fagbenro said the establishment of the hotel was inspired by years of global exposure and a desire to contribute to national development after spending decades abroad.

According to him, the project was conceived as far back as 2002 and gradually developed into reality through dedication and support from family members and associates.

He said Treal Hotels and Suites was established to bridge gaps in the hospitality sector by offering modern facilities and quality services at competitive rates.

The boutique hotel features 30 luxury rooms across two floors, equipped with modern furniture, flat-screen televisions, high-speed internet services, air conditioning systems, complimentary tea and coffee facilities, and premium amenities including Jacuzzi systems, massage sofas, exercise bikes, a swimming pool, and a fully equipped gym.

The Vice Chairman of the hotel, Mrs Adejoke Fagbenro, appreciated stakeholders for their support towards the completion of the project, noting that the vision was to deliver a world-class hospitality facility offering value and quality services to guests within and outside Ogun State.

She said the management team remains committed to maintaining high standards in service delivery, assuring guests of comfort, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.

The General Manager, Mr Nuhu Onoja, said improved accommodation and tourism infrastructure remain critical to strengthening the sector’s contribution to the economy, noting that the hotel was designed to elevate hospitality standards in Ogun State and beyond.

He said, “We have come to transform the hospitality landscape in Abeokuta and its environs. Our goal is to provide top-quality services while creating employment opportunities for young people. We currently have a formidable workforce carefully selected and trained to deliver excellent customer service.”

Onoja added that the management plans to expand the brand to other parts of the country, while prioritising staff welfare and professionalism as key operational values.

In his remarks, Henry Fagbenro, elder brother of the Chairman, expressed satisfaction with the completion of the project, noting that he had long encouraged his brother to invest at home after many years abroad.

He said, “No matter how long one stays abroad, there is no place like home,” adding that the hotel would provide quality services and create employment opportunities for youths in the state.

The grand opening of Treal Hotels and Suites is expected to attract dignitaries, including Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, traditional rulers, government officials, and stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism industry.
