The Federal Government has commissioned newly completed female students’ hostels at the Gadau Main Campus and Yuli Campus of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, under the 2024 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Annual Intervention Projects.
The commissioning held at the university’s main campus in Gadau, was part of the nationwide presidential inauguration of projects executed through TETFund across tertiary institutions and other public facilities in the country.
Representing the Executive Secretary of TETFund at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Bauchi State Ministry of Higher Education and Regional Integration, Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir, said the projects reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and student welfare.
The intervention comprises two modern 40-room ensuite female hostels located at the Gadau Main Campus and Yuli Campus, designed to address accommodation challenges and provide a more conducive environment for learning.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Professor Fatimah Tahir, described the projects as a significant milestone in the institution’s efforts to enhance students’ welfare and academic experience.
She noted that adequate accommodation remains essential to quality education, stressing that the new facilities would improve students’ comfort, security and overall learning conditions.
According to her, the hostels represent more than physical infrastructure, as they demonstrate TETFund’s commitment to supporting higher education and the university management’s resolve to prioritise student-centred development.
“These hostels are not just buildings. They are a reflection of our commitment to creating an environment where students can thrive academically and socially,” she said.
Professor Tahir expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining investments in the education sector through TETFund and commended the agency, contractors and project supervisors for the successful completion of the projects.
In his remarks, Malam Isa Mohammed Tahir described the hostels as symbols of the government’s dedication to quality education and the wellbeing of students.
He said the facilities would provide a safe and conducive atmosphere where students could live, study and realise their full potential.
“The hostel is more than a building; it is a home away from home where friendships will be built, ideas exchanged, dreams nurtured and future leaders developed,” he said.
He urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance, while commending the Presidency, TETFund and the university management for bringing the projects to fruition.
The commissioning of the hostels is expected to ease accommodation pressure on female students and further strengthen learning and living conditions at the university.
