News Publisher and founder of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has distanced himself from the recent opposition summit held in Ibadan by some opposition leaders.
Sowore in a social media post on Sunday, 26 April, 2026 said that Nigerians deserve a genuine alternative rather than what he described as recycled political leadership.
He said he declined an invitation to attend the gathering, noting that many of the figures involved had previously presided over years of stagnation, corruption, and systemic decay.

“There is no need to pretend that the same men (and a few women) who held Nigeria to ransom for years, presiding over stagnation, corruption, and systemic decay, can suddenly reinvent themselves as champions of progress or defenders of the people,” he said.
The former presidential candidate emphasized that his party, the African Action Congress, would not be part of any coalition aimed at repackaging what he called failed political actors under the banner of opposition unity.
Sowore further said that the AAC is focused on building a people-driven movement anchored on integrity, accountability, and transformative governance, promising to mobilize Nigerians nationwide behind a credible alternative vision.
He also criticized both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and major opposition parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of representing entrenched political interests.
