The All Progressives Congress (APC), Sokoto State Chapter, has successfully conducted its senatorial affirmation exercises across the three senatorial zones in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections on Monday.
The three affirmed candidates are: Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Sen. Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa, and Alhaji Umar Ajiya, for Sokoto North, Sokoto South, and Sokoto East Senatorial Districts, respectively.
The affirmations were supervised by a 16-member Election Committee dispatched to Sokoto State by the APC National Headquarters.
The exercises were also monitored across the state by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other relevant bodies.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee in the Sokoto North Senatorial District, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, who is also the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said the exercises were conducted in line with the provisions of the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the regulations of the APC.
Barr. Binji stated that Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the former Governor of the state, is the sole candidate in the district.
“Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko was the sole aspirant who submitted the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the position,” he said.
“He was also successfully screened and cleared by the APC. Therefore, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is hereby declared the sole candidate to contest for the position.”
The leader of the delegation from the APC National Headquarters, Hon. Hadi Ukashatu, commended the peaceful conduct of the affirmations across the state.
In his acceptance speech, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko lauded the people of the state for their sustained love, support, and solidarity toward him and the APC.
Sen. Wamakko acknowledged the continued confidence of the people, adding, “They have been loyal and supportive.
“Sokoto State is unique to the APC, and the history of the party would not be complete without the inclusion of the state.”
Addressing newsmen at his residence shortly after the event, Sen. Wamakko said he was elated by the overwhelming confidence reposed in him and the APC by the people of the state.
He recommitted himself to serving humanity, his constituents, the people of the state, and Nigerians at large.
He also urged that Sokoto State should continue to be a model for Nigeria, calling on leaders to ensure that all citizens are carried along.
He reminded all APC candidates across the country that they are in office to serve the people, not to acquire wealth.
“So, we must strive to provide improved services to Nigerians, and we must all serve our constituents diligently and to the best of our abilities,” he said.
He specifically commended Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for his transparent leadership style and commitment to good governance, noting that the administration has continued to strengthen public confidence in the APC across the state.
He reaffirmed his commitment to selfless service and called on leaders and political office holders to prioritise the welfare of the people, stressing that leadership should be about service, not personal enrichment.
