Sunday Telegraph gathered that the decision was reached at thea high-level political meeting convened by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, in Abuja.

Confirming the endorsement, Governor Yusuf’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Salisu Kosawa, wrote: “His Excellency the Governor of Kano State H.E Abba Kabir Yusuf has led a meeting with the candidates running for senatorial seat of Kano central under APC flag where they reached one position with the contestant Mal. Ibrahim Shekarau back.”
Recall that Shekarau recently defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in April.
The former governor announced his defection at his residence in Kano alongside PDP chieftain, Senator Bello Gwarzo, during a gathering attended by supporters and political loyalists.
Addressing supporters at the time, Shekarau said the decision was taken after extensive consultations and careful consideration of available political options.
He sought the opinion of those present on the move and received unanimous approval from supporters, signalling collective endorsement of his return to the APC.
Shekarau served as governor of Kano State from 2003 to 2011 and later served as Minister of Education between 2014 and 2015.
