The Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) has called for sincerity in governance across the nation.
This is just as the group also called for responsible citizenship, collective efforts irrespective of ethnic, political, or religious affiliations to help facilitate the progress of the country.
The group also called on all and sundry to embrace godly guidance for the justice, unity, and development to achieve the much-needed in Nigeria.
WOWICAN appealed on Friday in a communiqué signed by its Chairperson, Dr. Ayobami Elizabeth Akinadewo, after its second quarter meeting, which took place on Saturday, May 9, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The document also expressed concern over the severe economic hardship currently affecting Nigerian families, especially the rising cost of food, transportation, healthcare, education, and other essential needs.
The body expressed worry over the worsening state of insecurity across several parts of Nigeria, including persistent attacks on communities, kidnappings, displacement of families, and threats to lives and property.
Noting that women and children continue to bear a disproportionate burden of these crises, with many widowed, displaced, traumatized, and left without adequate protection or support, WOWICAN called on the Federal, state, and local governments, as well as all security agencies, to intensify efforts toward securing lives and property across the nation, especially in vulnerable communities.
In addition, WOWICAN appealed to “state governments to strengthen emergency response mechanisms, ensure justice for victims of attacks, and prosecute perpetrators of violence in accordance with the law.”
The women’s group also called on churches, agencies, individuals, and Christian organisations across the country to continue to provide spiritual, emotion- al, and material support to struggling families and vulnerable members of society.
