Police Prevents Political Rally At Gbenga Daniel’s Residence

There was a heavy presence of armed police officers cordoning off the residence of the former governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, disrupting a planned political gathering in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

New Telegraph reports that security personnel were deployed to the Obanta Club area and surrounding streets, restricting access to the former governor’s residence in the Government Reserved Area (GRA).

An armoured personnel carrier was also stationed at the scene, indicating a significant security presence that unsettled residents.

Sources said the operatives halted a scheduled BAT/OGD Community Assessment and Review rally, a grassroots mobilisation programme linked to support for President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated second-term bid in 2027, as well as Daniel’s expected return to the Senate.

An aide to Daniel alleged that security agents blocked all entry points to the venue, preventing supporters from accessing the location.

“Police stormed the Obanta Club area and blockaded OGD’s residence to deny access to the venue of the BAT/OGD Community Assessment and Review Tour scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2026,” the aide said.

The event, organised under the Gateway Front Foundation, was designed as an outreach initiative aimed at engaging and supporting constituents across the Ogun East Senatorial District.

Organisers had reportedly planned to reach thousands of beneficiaries, but the heavy security presence forced the cancellation of the programme.

Eyewitnesses said many supporters were left stranded and visibly distressed after being denied entry to the venue.

The development comes amid an ongoing political rift between Daniel and Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The situation escalated earlier in the week when Daniel was reportedly denied access to a senatorial stakeholders’ meeting held in Ijebu-Ode, which later turned rowdy.

Governor Abiodun is said to be eyeing the Ogun East senatorial seat, with reports indicating he received endorsement at the meeting as the party’s preferred candidate — a move believed to have deepened tensions between the two political figures
