Mustapha Sule Lamido, a leading governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State, has completed the party’s screening exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Saturday Telegraph reports that the screening was conducted at the PDP National Secretariat, Legacy House Annex, Abuja.

Lamido, popularly known as Santurakin Dutse, used the occasion to advocate for greater participation of young people in leadership and governance across the country.

According to him, many developed nations have recorded progress because younger generations were actively involved in political and administrative leadership.

“The younger generation believes in themselves and is ready to provide purposeful leadership,” he said.

Lamido stated that Nigeria’s political landscape was gradually changing, adding that young Nigerians possess the energy, ideas and vision required to reposition the country.

The governorship aspirant also expressed concern over the increasing rate of political defections in the country, blaming the trend on what he described as a lack of ideological commitment among some politicians.

According to him, many political actors move between parties because they lack strong political convictions and principles.

Lamido further reflected on his performance during the 2023 governorship election in Jigawa State, noting that he secured nearly 400,000 votes across the state.

He described the outcome as evidence of growing public support for youth-driven leadership and political renewal.

The PDP chieftain maintained that his decision to contest the governorship election was based on appeals and encouragement from residents of Jigawa State who desire a new generation of leadership.

He added that the last general election demonstrated that many citizens were increasingly open to supporting younger politicians for strategic leadership positions.
