PDP Dismisses Wike’s Remarks As ‘Political Swan Song’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his recent comments describing it as a “political swan song” and a display of desperation.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong on Wednesday,  the party accused Wike of engaging in “political rascality, moral emptiness, and crass opportunism” during his media chat held on Wednesday where he allegedly made disparaging remarks about the party leaders.

The PDP leadership said Wike’s comments did not warrant a direct response but offered what it described as an apology to Nigerians for previously providing him with a platform to serve in top political positions, including as governor and minister.

The party further urged individuals allegedly defamed by the minister to seek legal redress, stressing that no one should be above the law.

Addressing internal party issues, the PDP reaffirmed that there is no constitutional provision for a “National Leader” position within its structure, dismissing any claims or ambitions tied to such a role.

The statement also confirmed that the sale of nomination forms and preparations for party primaries and a national convention are ongoing, noting that these processes will produce a credible presidential candidate.

The party dismissed alleged threats attributed to Wike regarding financial institutions, insisting that its operations remain intact and unaffected.
