The Cross River State Police Command has taken into custody a 45-year-old Pastor, Samson Roman Dago, for allegedly beating one Nancy Peter to death.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Sunday Etokpah Akata, the incident which occured on Monday at Wula community in Boki Local Government Area of the state was initiated by the girl’s 45-year-old mother, Mrs Agnes Peter
A release signed by the PPRO explained that the girl’s mother had accused her daughter of stealing and had beaten her, but later took her to the Pastor, who gave her an additional flogging.
The statement reads in part: “The victim reportedly became unconscious thereafter and was rushed to a medical facility in Wula Community for treatment, where she was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
“The Command has commenced a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the extent of involvement of all persons connected to the case. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
“The Command is also aware of reports and social media claims alleging that the minor was sexually assaulted. At this stage, investigations have not established any evidence to substantiate such claims.
“Relevant medical examinations and investigative procedures are ongoing to ascertain the facts.”
