After the withdrawal of one of the frontline contenders, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, from the 2027 governorship race, businessman and philanthropist, Chief Eric Opah, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
Chief Opah defeated the only opponent and former Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikoh, to clinch the APC ticket.
Announcing the results, the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Returning Officer, Mr Batho Nylong, declared that Opah polled 126,977 votes to defeat Ikoh, who scored 5,905 votes.
The party primary was attended by delegates from across the state and described by party officials as peaceful and well coordinated.
The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, had earlier picked the ticket to return to the Senate.
