One Killed, Two Arrested In Oyo Armed Robbery Attack

The Oyo State Police Command has foiled an attempted armed robbery operation in Iseyin Town, killing one of them and arresting two others.

The incident, according to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka, took place at about 0200 hrs on Thursday along Saki Road at a residence situated close to the scene of an earlier reported robbery incident within the same axis.

According to the release, “preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, numbering about five (5), invaded the residence, which had reportedly suffered a similar attack sometime in February.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was gathered that the resident security guard had courageously engaged the armed suspects in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of one of the suspects, while two (2) others were arrested at the scene.

The remaining members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

“A thorough search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one cut-to-size locally- made short gun, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, about five (5) mobile handsets, two (2) power banks, and a sum of money reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

“Consequently, the corpse of the neutralised suspect was evacuated and deposited at a mortuary, while the arrested suspects, identified as Ali Umar ‘M’ and Mohammed Usman ‘M’, were taken into Police custody for further investigation.

“Following the arrest of the suspects and the expansion of investigative efforts, additional victims of previously reported robbery incidents within the axis have continued to come forward with useful information.

“In a related development, one of the victims of the previous robbery operations has positively identified the suspects as members of the gang that attacked his residence on 13/04/2026, thereby strengthening ongoing investigations into the activities of the criminal syndicate.

“In view of the emerging revelations, investigation has been intensified to ascertain the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in other reported armed robbery cases within and outside the Area of Responsibility (AOR), as well as to facilitate the arrest of the fleeing gang members currently at large.

“To ensure a discreet and comprehensive investigation, the case file, suspects, and exhibits have been transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit”, the PPRO said.
