OAU Medical Student Dies During Clinical Examination


A Part IV medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, has reportedly died during a clinical examination session.

The management of the university, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the incident occurred during a clinical viva examination when the student reportedly complained of chest pain.

Olarewaju said the student was immediately attended to by his lecturers and fellow medical students present at the examination venue.

However, despite prompt medical attention and efforts to revive him, he was later confirmed dead.

The university described the development as a tragic loss that has sent shockwaves through its community.

Reacting to the incident, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff and students, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.

He also commiserated with the friends, colleagues and members of the College of Health Sciences, describing the loss as painful and irreparable.

The university management said it is engaging relevant authorities and the family to provide necessary support and to further understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
