Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has said, contrary to popular opinion, not all Nigerian movie stars live opulent lives.
Speaking on a podcast held by her coworker Baaj Adebule, Rosman claimed that despite their stardom and glitzy on-screen personas, many Nollywood actresses are truly having financial difficulties.
According to her, that is one of the most exaggerated myths about the film industry.
She emphasised that financially secure people typically don’t act alone; rather, they get their wealth from other commercial endeavours.

Rosman said, “The most overrated misconception about Nollywood stars is that we have money. I don’t know why people assume we have money. Some of us do have money, but from other ventures. But many of us are struggling financially.”
It has been noted that some performers take lengthy intervals between assignments, which makes it challenging to sustain a consistent salary.
For mid-level and up-and-coming artists, the pressure to represent an affluent lifestyle on social media in order to get brand endorsements frequently exacerbates the financial hardship.
Rosman’s comments are consistent with observations made in previous years by a number of Nollywood veterans.
Top celebrities have amassed significant fortunes through a variety of ventures, including endorsements, film production, real estate, and other businesses, yet most of them are still unable to support themselves solely on acting salaries.
