Nigeria’s effort to bolster the Super Eagles’ offence on Saturday took a new direction, as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly intensifying attempts to persuade William Osula to change his international allegiance from Denmark.
The 22-year-old striker, now with Newcastle United after his transfer from Sheffield United, has experienced a boost in performance despite having limited chances earlier in the season.
His increasing impact was highlighted by a crucial goal against Manchester United, a display that further elevated his status in the Premier League.
Apart from his achievements on the field, Osula has won over Nigerian supporters, particularly through a viral instance where he cooked Ogbono soup while playfully teasing rivals, a moment that highlighted his cultural connections to the nation.

Born in Copenhagen to a mother from Denmark and a father of Nigerian-French descent, Osula is still qualified to represent various countries.
Despite having played for Denmark at the youth level and recently getting a call for the senior team, he has not yet secured a competitive appearance.
Reports suggest that the NFF has reached out to encourage him to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria. With attacking players like Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Paul Onuachu already in the team, Osula’s mix of speed, power, and future potential could provide a unique element to the attack.
There is an increasing conviction that he might ultimately evolve into a lasting replacement for Victor Osimhen as the centrepiece of Nigeria’s offence.
Since Denmark has not capped him in a competitive match and he did not qualify for the World Cup, opportunities are still available. The ability of Nigeria to secure its commitment could turn into one of the most scrutinised eligibility contests in African football
