The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned the members of the public about the circulation of unregistered and suspected counterfeit Colgate toothpaste.
In a notice issued on Sunday evening, April 19, NAFDAC noted that the Post-Marketing Surveillance Directorate received a complaint about the distribution of the products in Kaduna State, prompting an investigation.
According to the agency, its officials visited the outlet where the items were being sold and discovered two suspected counterfeit products branded as “Coglaet ActivGel 100g” and “Coglaet Herbal 100g.”
According to the agency, the affected products include “Coglaet Crema Dental Herbal 100g” and “Coglaet ActivGel 100g,” both of which bear no batch numbers or NAFDAC registration numbers.

NAFDAC added that the items had been removed from circulation while investigations were ongoing to identify and track distributors.
“The products are labelled as being manufactured by Guangzhou YECAI Oral Cleaning Products Co., Ltd, located in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, China, with manufacturing dates in August 2025 and expiry dates in August 2029.”
The agency said all its zonal directors and state coordinators had been directed to intensify surveillance and mop up the counterfeit products wherever they are found.
It advised distributors, retailers and consumers to exercise caution and verify the authenticity and physical condition of products before purchase or use.
Consumers were urged to report suspected cases of substandard or counterfeit products to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322, or send an email to [email protected].
The agency also encouraged healthcare professionals and patients to report any adverse effects linked to the products through its official reporting platforms, including its website and the Med-Safety mobile application.
