The African Democratic Congress (ADC) yesterday said Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s comment on ‘Operation wetie’ during political summit in Ibadan, Oyo State on Saturday, was a warning about the dangers of shrinking the democratic space and ignoring the signals that precede instability.
ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on X yesterday, added that references to history were meant to prevent crisis, but not provoke it.
Abdullahi said: “If you believe in free, fair, and credible elections, there is nothing to fear,” Abdullahi stated, and noting that those working to rig outcome of elections, silence the opposition, and close the democratic space are the only ones who should feel uneasy.
“History is meant to teach and to warn. History is not meant to threaten anyone except those who are determined to ignore its lessons.”
