Lagos Seals Domino’s Pizza Outlet In Lekki Over Illegal Sewage

The Lagos State Government has sealed a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Lekki over the alleged indiscriminate discharge of untreated sewage into the environment, in what authorities described as a threat to public health and environmental safety.

The affected outlet, located at No. 38B Freedom Way, Lekki, Eti-Osa, was shut down following an investigation by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office after a complaint was lodged by a resident.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday.

According to the commissioner, officials discovered that untreated sewage was being discharged from an overfilled septic tank into public drains and the surrounding environment.

“Following a complaint received from a concerned resident and a thorough investigation, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Wednesday 12th May, 2026, sealed-off Dominion Pizza at No. 38B, Freedom Way, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over indiscriminate discharge of untreated sewage from its chamber due to an overfilled septic tank into the environment and public drains, causing environmental nuisance, offensive odour, as well as endangering human health,” the statement read.

Wahab said the illegal discharge created offensive odour within the area, constituted an environmental nuisance, and posed health risks to residents and passersby.

The commissioner warned residents, businesses, and property managers across the state to comply strictly with proper wastewater disposal and environmental sanitation regulations or face sanctions and possible prosecution.

“Lagos State Government reiterates the need for residents and property managers to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices, noting that any individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be meted with appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the enabling laws,” he stated.

He also urged residents to report environmental violations through the state government’s dedicated complaint lines: 08022022397 and 07025332163.

The enforcement forms part of an ongoing crackdown by the Lagos State Government on illegal sewage disposal and environmental infractions, particularly in densely populated commercial and residential districts such as Lekki.

In recent weeks, state environmental officials have carried out similar enforcement operations against estates, event centres, and other hospitality businesses accused of violating wastewater management regulations.
