The incumbent Senator, Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Kaduna South Senatorial District, defeating former Senator Danjuma Tella La’ah and Engr. Michael Auta.

The election was held on Monday across the district’s eight Local Government Areas. Returning Officer Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, declared the process free, fair, and peaceful at the collation centre in Jema’a Local Government Secretariat.

Katung polled 7,513 votes, according to the results announced. The breakdown by LGA was: Kagarko 985, Sanga 588, Kauru 1,348, Zangon Kataf 815, Kaura 1,029, Jema’a 1,113, Jaba 570, and Kachia 1,005.

La’ah came second with 1,370 votes, while Auta placed third with 878 votes.

With the result, Katung secured the APC ticket to represent Kaduna South in the 2027 general election.

Speaking after the announcement, Zangon Kataf LGA Chairman Joseph Bege Gaiya described the outcome as a reflection of the grassroots’s will and said the exercise showed strength in the party’s internal democracy.

“The people have spoken through a transparent process, and we must all work together to ensure victory for our party at all levels,” Gaiya said.

He expressed confidence that Zangon Kataf would deliver strong support for Katung, Governor Uba Sani, and other APC candidates, and urged aggrieved aspirants to close ranks ahead of the general election.
