Kano North Backs Barau Jibrin, Rejects Gwarzo’s Moves

Stakeholders in Kano North Senatorial District, on Monday, reaffirmed their confidence in the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, while dismissing recent political moves by rival aspirants as lacking relevance and grassroots support.

A press statement issued by the Chairman of the Kano North Political Stakeholders Forum, Aliyu Abbas Gumawa Gabasawa, said the group said its position followed extensive consultations and an assessment of the political mood within the constituency.

The stakeholders described recent declarations by aspirants, particularly the immediate past Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, as “misplaced ambition lacking grassroots backing and relevance to the aspirations of the people of Kano North.”

They also questioned the credibility of gatherings held in support of such ambitions, noting that the events were “attended largely by individuals outside the immediate constituency,” which they said reflects a disconnect from the people.

According to the statement, the presence of such individuals does not translate into electoral strength, stressing that the events were “dominated by political actors whose influence does not reflect the realities” on the ground.

The forum further expressed concern over what it described as attempts to interfere in the political process of the district, warning against moves to impose candidates on the people of Kano North.

Reaffirming their stance, the stakeholders said Senator Barau Jibrin remains “a tested, trusted, and result-oriented representative,” whose track record of legislative performance and accessibility continues to earn him widespread acceptance.

They added that Kano North is “not available for political experimentation or imposed candidacies,” urging political actors to respect the will of the electorate and allow the people to determine their future based on proven representation.
