The planned ratification of former President, Goodluck Jonathan as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 presidential election is being threatened as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed owners of event centres and hotels in Abuja to refuse access to any political party faction not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
New Telegraph reports that the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP is planning to ratify the former president as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election on Saturday, May 30th, in Abuja.
However the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a statement on Friday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka threatened to revoke the certificate of occupancy (C-of-O) of non-compliant event owners or hotels.
“Owners of Event Centres and Hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognised leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities, and proper records of transactions must be kept,” the statement added.
It will be recalled that the PDP faction loyal to Wike has adopted Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate for 2027 and has been presented with a certificate of return this week.
