Iwobi Hails Victor Osimhen’s Elite Winning Mentality

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has praised the relentless drive of Nigeria teammate Victor Osimhen, describing the striker’s mentality as a key factor behind his rise to the top of world football, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Speaking on the Beast Mode On Podcast, Iwobi reflected on what sets Osimhen apart, pointing to his intensity in training and his refusal to hold back in any situation, regardless of the opponent.

Iwobi described the forward’s strong desire to win, admitting that it sometimes pushes him to the edge even in training sessions, but insisting that such an attitude underlines his elite mindset.

“He always wants to win, and that mentality is sick. It’s sick. Sometimes it can be over the top because in training, he would like to fight and make sure he’s winning. Then sometimes he cheats, and he knows he’s cheating just to win. But it’s just a sick mentality,” Iwobi said.

Iwobi added that Osimhen’s rise has not come as a surprise to those who have worked closely with him, explaining that while some may question his style, the striker’s work rate and determination consistently create opportunities in front of goal.

“I’m not surprised he is where he is right now. Some would say he’s not polished, he’s a bit raw, but Victor will create himself five chances a game, just himself, just from hard work and running,” he added.

The midfielder also highlighted Osimhen’s fearless approach to opposition, stressing that the striker shows the same level of intensity regardless of the level of competition or the stature of the defender he is facing.

“He doesn’t care who you are. He doesn’t care if you’re Virgil van Dijk, if you’re a guy from non-league – no disrespect to non-league – he will fight. He will treat the game in the Champions League as if he’s playing with his brethrens,” Iwobi said.

He went further to describe the forward’s approach often sees him put his body on the line, competing for every ball with the same aggression he would show in a competitive match.

“Cool, cool guy. Every time in training, he’s always getting hurt in training because he’s got to put his leg or his head into something that he shouldn’t do. He’s always been fighting,” Iwobi added.

With 35 goals in 51 caps for Nigeria, Osimhen remains a central figure for the Super Eagles, and Iwobi’s insight offers a glimpse into the mentality that has driven his consistent success at both club and international level.
