The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said all 22 registered political parties met the May 10, 2026, deadline for the submission of membership registers to the commission in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
INEC had, on March 24, following concerns raised by the parties, extended the timeline for the submission of membership registers to May 10.
The National Commissioner, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who also doubles as Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement on Friday, said the registers were submitted on May 8, 2026, which is two days before the extended deadline.
Mallam Haruna recalled that political parties had, during the meeting, been given between April 23 and May 30, 2026, to conduct their primaries, while the register of party members was required to be submitted to INEC not later than 21 days before the conduct of their respective primaries.
“INEC wishes to state that all registered political parties complied with the requirement within the extended timeframe and will subject the submitted registers to the necessary verification processes in line with the law.
“The commission remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections,” the National Commissioner added.
