The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, has called on Nigerian workers to embrace discipline, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose as the nation marks the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
In her message to commemorate the annual event, the Minister stressed that the role of workers remains central to national development, noting that meaningful progress can only be achieved through collective commitment and a shared vision.
She urged workers across sectors to remain focused and dedicated to their responsibilities, emphasising that discipline in service and unity of purpose are critical in overcoming the country’s socio-economic challenges.
According to her, the task ahead may be demanding, but with resilience and cooperation, Nigeria can translate its policies into tangible benefits for citizens and ensure lasting national growth.
“Like quiet hands that steady the nation and faithful hearts that keep its promise alive, today we honour the dignity of labour and the enduring spirit of service.
“I extend warm solidarity to the Management and Staff of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and our parastatal, the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development.
“This year’s Workers’ Day finds us firmly aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, an Agenda that places people, productivity, and shared prosperity at its core.
“As a Ministry, we are central to this vision, advancing inclusion, strengthening families, and delivering social protection where it matters most.”
She assured workers that better days are not distant; they are being built.
“Through the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention (RHSII-) 774, we are scaling impact across all 774 Local Government Areas, expanding opportunities for empowerment, deepening community reach, and positioning our workforce at the frontline of measurable national transformation.
“In doing so, we remain clear that the welfare of our staff is not peripheral but fundamental, an essential pillar in achieving our mandate and sustaining the results we seek.”
She said the declaration of 2026 as the Year of Families and Social Development is both a charge and a catalyst.
“It affirms our mandate, elevates our relevance, and unlocks new pathways for programme expansion, stronger partnerships, and greater institutional impact.
“For you, the engine of this Ministry, this moment carries clear assurance: your welfare, growth, and productivity remain a priority.
“We will continue to strengthen capacity, improve working conditions, and build a more responsive and supportive system that enables you to perform at your best.
“Let us therefore press forward; focused, disciplined, and united. The task is significant, but so is the promise before us.
“With renewed commitment, we will translate policy into impact and service into lasting national progress.
Suleiman-Ibrahim further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating enabling policies and programmes that support workers’ welfare, productivity, and inclusive development.
