The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, yesterday said the Federal Government’s Digital Switchover (DSO) project is ready for inauguration on June 17.
He said this yesterday in Abuja after assessing DSO facilities put in place by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd. (NIGCOMSAT) in partnership with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
He was accompanied by the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Charles Ebuebu and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton-Idehen.
The minister described it as a turning point in Nigeria’s broadcasting sector, attributing it to the promise by President Tinubu that all sectors the broadcast industry would be reformed.
The DSO project, managed by the NBC, is Nigeria’s nationwide transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting. Idris, who stated this yesterday during a tour of facilities at NIGCOMSAT located at the Obasanjo Space Centre, said the project aimed to improve broadcast quality, boost the digital economy, and free up spectrum for broadband.
The minister described the completion of the DSO project as an indication that President Bola Tinubu had fulfilled his promise to carry out reforms across sectors, especially in the broadcast industry
