A former member representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Lanre Odubote, has called on leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the contest for the seat to constituency II.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, Hon. Odubote also urged the current member, Hon. Tasir Olawale Raji, not to seek re-election to the Green Chambers in the interest of equity and to ensure fairness in terms of opportunity for representation by all the zones making up the constituency.
According to Odubote, the current member from the area, has nothing else to prove, having had his chance on three occasions, adding that it would be an honourable thing for him to drop his fourth term bid and go ahead to endorse any candidate from Epe constituency II.
“I am using the opportunity provided by this platform to call on all the leaders of the APC in Epe and the state to make it a deliberate decision to zone the seat to Constituency II, comprising 11 wards, as against 8 wards where Hon Raji, who has done three terms, comes from,” he wrote in the statement he made available to newsmen.
Hon Odubote further added that Constituency II has abundant and capable persons who can represent the constituency at the Green Chambers like Constituency I, adding that the continued zoning of the position to a particular area to the exclusion of the other is not just a misnomer and unfair, it also kills the morale of party members in the area.
He further urged the party to also consider gender in its decision to zone the office, saying, “It is rather unfortunate that the constituency has enough educated and talented women who have proven their capacity and capability in various fields, both public and private sectors, that can be considered.”
