Effurun Extrajudicial Killing Barbaric, Violation Of Rule Of Law –Obi

Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Peter Obi, said the extrajudicial killing of a young Nigerian in Effurun, Delta State, by a police officer, Mr. Mene Ogidi, is not only barbaric but a grave violation of the rule of law.

Obi in a statement on X, reminded police authority that human society has moved from an era when lives could be taken without consequence, to evolution of civilisation.

He said: “No one should be punished or deprived of life without due process and a fair determination of guilt.” He condemned such act, which he stated, inflicted “unimaginable trauma on the bereaved family and deepen public anxiety in an already distressed society.”

Obi noted that Nigerians were already traumatised by recurring reports of brutal killings by terror organisations across the country, adding that incidents of this nature involving state actors, “only worsen that psychological burden and erode public confidence in safety and security.” The former Anambra State governor demanded that the law must take its full course.
