…says PRP is ready to surrender party in Bauchi
A political group known as Glory Restoration Group (GRG) in Bauchi State has called on Governor Bala Mohammed to consider joining the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), citing concerns over the growing dominance of major political parties and the need to preserve Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
Speaking at a press briefing in Bauchi, the National Coordinator, PRP Glory Restoration Group (GRG) said it had been closely monitoring political developments, particularly speculations about moves to lure the governor from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Coordinator warned that the increasing concentration of political power in a single party could weaken democratic ideals, stressing that a vibrant opposition remains critical to national development.
According to the group, the PRP, described as one of Nigeria’s oldest political parties with roots dating back to the Second Republic, offers a strong ideological foundation centred on social welfare and people-oriented governance.
“The current political trend suggests a gradual tilt towards a one-party state. The best way to address this is for credible leaders to align with parties that uphold clear ideological principles,” the group said.
It noted that Bauchi State has a history of diverse political representation, recalling that in previous elections, different parties secured seats in both the National and State Assemblies.
The group acknowledged ongoing efforts by the present administration but maintained that more needs to be done in addressing the welfare needs of citizens.
“We believe a platform like the PRP, with its strong pro-people ideology, provides an opportunity to deepen governance and prioritise the welfare of the masses,” it added.
The group further assured that the PRP remains open and stable, without internal crises, and ready to accommodate new entrants committed to the development of the state.
It urged the governor to prioritise the interests of the people over political alliances, noting that electoral success in Bauchi has historically been influenced more by public trust than elite political arrangements.
In his speech, the chairman of the Bauchi State People Redemption Party (PRP), Abdulrahman Yusuf Mu’azu, while responding to a question about the sharing formula, said the party is ready to surrender the party for the governor.
He used the medium and called on PRP supporters to go out and register massively in the ongoing INEC registration exercise in the state.
