A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has appealed to the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, for forgiveness over any perceived shortcomings as he formally signalled his intention to seek re-election in 2027.
Elliot, representing Surulere Constituency I, made this remark while addressing journalists after obtaining his nomination form to contest for another term in office.
According to him, the apology was not prompted by any direct accusation but was a gesture of respect.
“Our leader is a compassionate leader. a leader of thought. We are children. Children sometimes err. If I have erred in any way, my leader,
“I am sorry. Give me another chance, and let’s move on, and let’s bring more dividends of democracy to the people.”

Reacting to claims by the Surulere Accountability Forum alleging his rejection, the lawmaker dismissed the reports as politically motivated.
“I don’t know them. It’s just political propaganda. You can see for yourself.”
Defending his bid for a fourth term, Elliot argued that legislative experience translates into greater benefits for constituents, noting that senior lawmakers are better positioned to attract development.
“Three terms are great. But guess what? Another term is fantastic… The longer you stay, the better you become.”
He explained that ranking status in the legislature often leads to increased access to opportunities and resources for constituency development, including infrastructure and job placements.
Elliot also outlined plans to promote civic and legislative education if re-elected, including the establishment of an institute dedicated to legislative studies and a state orientation agency to reinforce societal values.
Emphasising continuity in governance, he likened legislative service to a progressive system where experience enhances effectiveness.
“If you say I should stop… You start with somebody who started from the beginning… it pays to have someone go over and over again.”
The lawmaker pointed to the political trajectory of his leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, as an example of how persistence and experience can culminate in higher leadership roles.
