The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers has made history with the election of Fiona Ahimie as its 14th President and Chairman of Council. The announcement, made following a Council meeting on Thursday, marks the first time a woman will lead the prestigious Institute in its more than three-decade existence.
Ahimie, an accomplished investment expert and the current Managing Director of First Securities Brokers Limited, succeeds Oluropo Dada. Her election is being celebrated across the Nigerian financial services sector as a landmark moment for gender inclusion and professional excellence.
“Fiona Ahimie brings proven expertise, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the Institute’s future,” stated the outgoing President, Oluropo Dada, during the transition announcement.
“I am confident she will build on the progress made and further strengthen the Institute’s role in the financial services sector,” he added, urging members to extend the same support to the incoming administration that he enjoyed during his tenure.
The transition follows the Institute’s established succession framework. Ahimie previously served as the 2nd and 1st Vice President, respectively. In the wake of her elevation, Akeem Oyewale has moved up to assume the role of 1st Vice President, with a new 2nd Vice President expected to be named shortly.
Reflecting on the milestones achieved before this historic handover, Dada highlighted the progress of the Corporate Strategic Plan (2024-2030) and the recent successful National Workshop in Abuja.
“My administration focused on branding and funding and recorded many landmarks, including the upgrade of the CIS Diploma to the Certified Securities and Investment Support Specialist designation,” Dada noted while addressing stockbrokers at the Institute’s 31st Annual General Meeting in Lagos.
With over 15 years of experience spanning senior roles at Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers, FBNQuest Capital, and Lead Capital, Ahimie is a Fellow of the CIS and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. She holds an MBA from Lagos Business School and a diploma from IESE Business School, Spain.
Ahimie is scheduled to be formally inaugurated as the 14th President on 25 June 2026.
