Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called on journalists to uphold ethical standards and professionalism as Nigeria marks the 2026 World Press Freedom Day.
In a goodwill message, the Governor emphasized the need for accuracy, objectivity, and responsible reporting, noting that the media must continue to promote national unity while discharging its constitutional role.
He commended journalists for their resilience and dedication despite challenges facing the profession, describing their role as crucial in advancing democracy and ensuring accountability in governance.
Governor Mohammed highlighted that press freedom is a fundamental human right that must be protected by all stakeholders, adding that a vibrant media sector is essential for sustainable development.
While pledging his administration’s commitment to maintaining a conducive environment for media practice in Bauchi State, the governor stressed that such freedom must be exercised with responsibility.
“A free and independent media is the cornerstone of democracy, but it must also be guided by truth, fairness, and a sense of national responsibility,” he said.
He further encouraged journalists to adapt to the changing media landscape by embracing innovation and strengthening professional standards.
The governor extended his felicitations to journalists across the country and urged continued dedication to the principles of accountability and public enlightenment.
