Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State have called on the party leadership to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders made the call during a visit to the hotel accommodating members of the party’s electoral committee following concerns over the postponement of the governorship primary election.
Speaking on behalf of the group, an APC stakeholder, Musa Buba Mohammed, popularly known as “Civilian General,” said party members were only interested in a democratic process that would provide all aspirants with a level playing field.
According to him, supporters of the party in Bauchi State were demanding a free and fair primary capable of producing a candidate widely accepted by party faithful and the people of the state.
“What we want is a peaceful, free, fair and credible primary election. We do not want imposition. That is our only demand,” he stated.
Musa maintained that democratic principles must be upheld at all levels of the party, stressing that the wishes of ordinary party members should prevail over the interests of a few individuals.
He expressed concern over the postponement of the governorship primaries in Bauchi and Kwara states, saying the development had generated suspicion among party supporters.
The APC chieftain urged the party leadership to emulate the democratic process that produced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate.
“The President emerged through the ballot, not through consensus. That is the same democratic process we are demanding here in Bauchi,” he added.
Despite their grievances, Musa assured that loyal APC members in the state would continue to work for the unity and success of the party.
In his remarks, Comrade Abdul’Aziz Nasrullah said Bauchi State deserved credible leaders who genuinely represented the interests of the people, calling for transparency and justice throughout the governorship primary process.
Our correspondent reports that some aggrieved supporters staged a protest on Wednesday night against the alleged imposition of an unpopular candidate, burning brooms in front of a governorship aspirant’s residence to express their anger and dissatisfaction.
While others called on the aspirant to defect to any available political party to enable him to contest in the election.
Similarly, rumours making the rounds in the state metropolis indicate that the governorship primary election has been postponed till today.
