The Bauchi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, has directed all political appointees aspiring to contest in the forthcoming party primaries to resign their positions on or before April 24, 2026.
The directive, contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, said the move was in compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).
According to the statement, the decision is aimed at ensuring adherence to statutory requirements regulating the participation of public office holders in electoral processes.
“All political appointees who intend to contest for any elective position are advised to resign their appointments on or before Friday, April 24, 2026, if they have not already done so,” the statement said.
The government also directed affected officials to hand over government property and responsibilities to appropriate officers within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
It expressed appreciation to the appointees for their contributions to the development of the state and wished them success in their political ambitions.
The directive is expected to affect several aides and officials currently serving in the administration who may be seeking elective positions ahead of party primaries.
