Atiku Poised To Clinch ADC Presidential Ticket

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has posited that the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is well-positioned to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a social media post on Thursday, Showunmi expressed strong confidence in Atiku’s chances, noting that the former Vice President possesses the political strength and readiness required for the race.

The PDP chieftain indicated that, in his assessment, Atiku remains the leading contender for the party’s ticket.

He, however, pointed out that the contest may not be without opposition, naming former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as a potential rival likely to provide significant competition.

Commenting on the broader political climate, Showunmi said public dissatisfaction is rising, particularly across northern Nigeria. He observed that both urban and rural communities are increasingly discontented, a development he believes could shape the dynamics of the 2027 elections.

He also cautioned political actors against abandoning loyal supporters after benefiting from them, warning that such actions could have consequences as alliances continue to shift in the lead-up to the polls.

On Atiku’s preparedness, Showunmi described him as fully committed to the contest, adding that he is ready to invest the time and effort needed to pursue the race effectively.

Identifying key electoral battlegrounds, he highlighted the South-East as a crucial region that could influence the outcome of the election. In contrast, he described the South-West as less predictable in its voting pattern.

He further underscored the importance of the North-Central, urging politicians to pay closer attention to the region, which he said could play a decisive role.

On governance, Showunmi reiterated the need for structural reforms, stressing that urgent changes are required to address Nigeria’s challenges.

He concluded with a Yoruba proverb, explaining that it reflects the importance of continuing to speak out, even when it appears that those in authority are not listening.
