Atiku Calls For United Opposition At Ibadan Summit


Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has called for a united opposition front in Nigeria, stressing the need for collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the National Opposition Summit held in Ibadan on Saturday, 25 April, 2026, Atiku in a social media post after the meeting said opposition leaders spoke “with one voice” in their resolve to strengthen democracy and present a united political force.

He described the move as a national obligation, stating that forging unity among opposition parties is necessary to defend and sustain Nigeria’s democracy for future generations.

The summit, hosted by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, brought together major political leaders and stakeholders from across the country, including leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, and the African Democratic Congress.

Atiku praised the people of Oyo State for their hospitality and described the state as historically significant in shaping Nigeria’s political direction.

He also commended Governor Makinde for hosting what he described as a “historic gathering” of opposition leaders.
