Asaba Airport Launches Automated Parking System with Intersw

Interswitch, an integrated digital payments and commerce company, has partnered with the Asaba Airport Company to deploy a smart parking system aimed at improving operational efficiency and passenger experience at the Asaba International Airport.

The solution, known as the Interswitch Parking Management Platform, introduces a fully automated parking and access control system designed to streamline airport operations and enhance mobility within the airport environment.

The firm stated in a statement on Monday that the initiative comes amid rising passenger and vehicular traffic across Nigeria’s airports, which has increased demand for smarter infrastructure and improved traffic management systems.

According to the partners, the deployment of the PMP will enable real-time parking analytics, faster vehicle processing at entry and exit points, reduced congestion, and improved traffic flow across the airport premises.

Commenting on the partnership, Vice President, Transport Ecosystem at Interswitch, Nnenna Ajanwachuku, said.

“This partnership with the Asaba Airport Company reflects our commitment to deploying technology that drives efficiency, transparency, and seamless user experiences across critical sectors.

“With the Parking Management Platform, we are not only addressing operational challenges but also enabling smarter infrastructure that supports revenue growth and long-term sustainability. Asaba Airport is setting the pace for what modern airport operations should look like in Nigeria.”

The system is also expected to strengthen airport revenue management through cashless payments and digital transaction tracking, reducing reliance on manual cash handling and improving financial accountability.

By digitising parking operations, the Asaba Airport Company will be able to monitor vehicle movements in real time, enforce access control policies, optimise parking space utilisation, and improve coordination across airport operations.

Managing Director of the Asaba Airport Company, Christophe Penninck, said the initiative marks a step forward in operational efficiency and service delivery.

“Our collaboration with Interswitch represents a significant step forward in our commitment to operational excellence and service delivery. The introduction of this advanced parking and access control system will improve efficiency, enhance transparency, and deliver a better experience for passengers and visitors. It also strengthens our ability to manage revenue more effectively while positioning Asaba Airport as a leader in smart airport infrastructure,” he said.

The PMP solution is designed to integrate with existing airport infrastructure, allowing for modernisation without major disruptions or costly system overhauls.

According to both organisations, the deployment represents a shift from manual parking systems to a technology-driven model powered by automation, digital payments, and real-time analytics.

The partners said the initiative sets a benchmark for smart transport infrastructure in Nigeria’s aviation sector and reinforces the role of digital technology in improving airport operations and passenger experience.
