Ahead of the closure of party digital registration of members, the Awka North Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is targeting to register 15,000 new members.
This is because the stakeholders of the party petitioned Governor Charles Soludo, the National Chairman of APGA, Barr Sylvester Ezeokenwa, on the need to correct the imbalance in the nomination of candidates for Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
According to the Convener of the stakeholders meeting and former Chairman of Awka North local government area, Chief Cosmas Okonkwo, the ongoing digital registration of members is vital for the victory of the party in the general election, adding that the party is looking at at least 15,000 new members.
“We just have two weeks to the end of the registration, and we are mobilising greatly to have at least 15,000 new members, and all our ward leaders have been sensitised on that “, he said.
According to the resolution signed by all stakeholders of the party in Awka North local government area, it lamented the imbalance in the nomination of candidates for Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
“By our observation, Awka South has produced candidates for the House of Representatives for twenty-four years, while Awka North has gone to the National Assembly for only four years ”
“After review of the representative history of Awka Federal Constituency, we resolve that it is best, just and necessary for Awka North to produce the candidate of the party for the National Assembly”
“We appeal to the leadership of our great party to zone the ticket of APGA to Awka North local government area for the purposes of equity ” the resolution read
