Professor Ahmed Yushau, the Chairman of the committee overseeing the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election in Adamawa State, has assured aspirants and party members of a free, fair, transparent, and credible exercise.
Professor Yushau gave the assurance during a press briefing held on Saturday at the APC State Secretariat in Yola ahead of the party’s House of Representatives primaries taking place across the state.
Addressing journalists alongside other committee members, Professor Yashau stated that the committee was fully prepared to conduct peaceful and transparent primaries in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, and the APC’s constitution and guidelines.
The Chairman stated that all aspirants who successfully passed the screening process would be given equal opportunities and a level playing ground throughout the exercise.
“No aspirant would be intimidated, discriminated against, or unfairly treated during the primaries, stressing that internal democracy remains the sacrosanct of a strong political party and democratic system”, he noted.
The committee Chairman called on registered party members participating in the exercise to vote according to their conscience and in the best interest of democracy and the development of Adamawa State.
He also appealed to aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the election, emphasising that politics should not be treated as a matter of life or death.
Also speaking, the APC State Secretary, Mustafa Atiku Ribadu, disclosed that the results of the elections would be announced at the collation centre located inside Government House, Yola.
However, Ribadu could not explain why the results would be announced at a collation centre located inside Government House instead of the usual Murtala Mohammed College, Yola.
At the time of filling this report, party members turned out peacefully to elect their preferred candidates across the eight federal constituencies in the state under the supervision of party officials and security personnel.
Saturday Telegraph gathered that in Lugerre Ward, Yola North, though the electorates were scanty, the exercise went smoothly with the presence of some security personnel.
Also at Zaibadari Michika One Ward in Michika Local Government Area, Makama B Sanda Ward and Bako Ward in Yola South Local Government Area, as well as Bole-Yolde Pate Ward in Yola South and Song Gari Ward in Song Local Government Area, reports that the elections were conducted peacefully.
Security personnel were observed maintaining order at the various voting centres, while electoral officials coordinated the accreditation and voting processes.
Party members at the polling centres expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and commended the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the primaries.
