All Progressive Congress (APC) aspirant for the House of Representatives seat of Riyom/Barkin Ladi Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Hon. Pharm. John Chun has concluded a comprehensive consultation tour across all wards in the constituency, declaring his readiness to deliver transformational and people-centred representation if elected in 2027.
Chun, who serves as Director of the State Liaison Office in Abuja under Governor Caleb Mutfwang, made the declaration at Kakpwis Federal Ward in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where he rounded off the grassroots engagement.
The tour, which took him through communities in both Riyom and Barkin Ladi, was aimed at interfacing with party faithful, community leaders and stakeholders, as well as presenting his legislative agenda ahead of the general elections.
Addressing supporters, Chun expressed appreciation for their loyalty over the years, noting that their continued support, despite past political setbacks, underscores a growing desire for a new direction in the constituency.
“We are not seeking election for self-enrichment or fame. Our mission is to move representation from transactional politics to purposeful service that directly impacts the lives of our people”.
He emphasised that his experience and network within the National Assembly place him in a vantage position to attract development and deliver results from the onset, stressing that he would prioritise security, infrastructure and inclusive growth.
Chun outlined key challenges confronting the constituency, including insecurity, poor road networks, youth unemployment and inadequate support for farmers, promising targeted legislative and interventionist actions to address them.
According to him, agriculture remains the mainstay of the local economy, hence the need for improved access to inputs such as fertilisers and seedlings, mechanised farming and better market linkages to enhance productivity.
Beyond policy promises, the aspirant pledged to champion people-oriented legislation, facilitate federal presence and ensure that democratic dividends reach rural communities across the constituency.
Reiterating his resolve, Chun said his ambition is rooted in genuine service, not personal interest, lamenting what he described as years of ineffective and transactional leadership.
“I am not going to Abuja to learn. I am going there to work from day one, to confront unemployment, insecurity and poverty affecting our people,” he added.
He also appreciated Governor Mutfwang for providing opportunities for young professionals, while calling for sustained support for ongoing development efforts, including the Korot Bakin Kogi Gindiri Road project.
His message of unity, inclusiveness and development resonated with stakeholders, particularly youths and women, who described his aspiration as timely.
Speaking on behalf of the ward leadership, APC Ex-Officio, Hon. David Markus, commended Chun’s track record, describing him as “a proud son of Kakpwis” with the capacity to represent the constituency effectively.
Similarly, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isa Chungwom Song urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the electoral process, noting that Kakpwis last produced a member of the House of Representatives in 1999.
Also, former Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Hon. Dr Emmanuel Loman, called for grassroots mobilisation in support of Chun, describing him as a credible and experienced candidate.
The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency, Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, said the rising support for Chun reflects renewed hope among the people, especially the youth, while commending Governor Mutfwang for empowering young leaders.
In the same vein, former Leader of the Barkin Ladi Legislative Arm, Hon. Nash Adamu, said the aspirant enjoys wide acceptance across the constituency and urged stakeholders to consolidate support for his emergence.
The APC Women Leader in Kakpwis also mobilised women to back Chun’s ambition, while urging him to prioritise women’s inclusion and empowerment if elected.
Earlier, the aspirant paid homage to traditional rulers, including the Gwom Ibaas, Dr Luka Pagyang, and the Dagwom Kapwis, where he formally declared his ambition and sought royal blessings.
The monarchs, who received him warmly, commended his humility and achievements, urging him to remain committed to the welfare of the people and wishing him success in his political journey.
With the conclusion of his ward-to-ward tour, Chun’s campaign is gaining momentum, positioning him as a key contender in the race for the Green Chamber seat in 2027.
