APC, Adeleke Govt Lock Horns Over Spending, Projects

The battle for Osun 2026 has taken a more confrontational turn as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke clashed openly on Monday over allegations of financial mismanagement, project quality, and sectoral priorities in the state.

The APC campaign team for its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, led the charge, accusing the state government of what it called “reckless spending without visible development impact.”

Speaking at a press briefing in Osogbo, the Chairman of the APC Media and Publicity Committee, Remi Omowaiye, said the state had been “mismanaged under the current administration,” insisting that Osun needed urgent fiscal restructuring.

“Osun is in a very bad state financially. What we are seeing is spending without development. There is no commensurate value for the resources being expended,” Omowaiye said.

He described Oyebamiji as “the man with the capacity to reset Osun’s economy,” adding that the APC candidate would prioritise industrial development, agriculture and power sector reforms.

“AMBO will reposition Osun. We are talking about industrialisation, mechanised agriculture, and full domestication of electricity reforms to stabilise power supply,” he said.

Omowaiye also insisted the APC would avoid emotional politics.

“Our campaign will be issue-based. We are not here for propaganda. We will engage with facts, figures and alternatives,” he added.

Raising further concerns, he questioned the quality of ongoing infrastructure projects.

“Let the government tell the Osun people who is handling these projects. Look at the Oke-Fia flyover, is it built to standard?” he asked.

He also alleged an imbalance in public spending priorities.

“About N92 billion reportedly went to the Governor’s Office, while agriculture got only about N7 billion. That tells you where the priorities are,” Omowaiye claimed.

Backing the criticism, APC media co-chair Funke Egbemode said education was suffering neglect.

“We have schools without enough science teachers, yet we are told everything is fine. The reality on the ground is different,” she said.

But the state government in a statement dismissed the allegations in strong terms, describing them as politically motivated distortions.

Responding, the governor’s spokesperson Mallam Olawale Rasheed said the APC was “resorting to falsehood because it has no credible record to defend.”

“What they are saying is a pack of lies. Osun funds are being used judiciously across sectors, and results are visible,” Rasheed said.

He also defended the state’s infrastructure projects, insisting they meet required standards.

“The Oke-Fia flyover is structurally sound and meets engineering specifications. There is no issue with quality as alleged,” he stated.

On electricity reforms, he countered the APC’s claim.

“It is false to say Osun has not domesticated the Electricity Act. The framework is already in place and implementation is ongoing,” he said.

Rasheed further accused the opposition of ignoring past governance issues.

“Interestingly, the same people making noise today supervised projects that are now raising structural concerns. Osun people know the difference; the names of contractors are not hidden. They are known and many are indigenous firms delivering quality projects,” he said.

He also defended security spending.

“Security votes are strictly used to support security agencies and respond to emergencies. There is no misuse,” Rasheed clarified.

He insisted the administration had recorded progress in key areas.

“We have improved access to healthcare, strengthened basic education and expanded water supply. The facts are there for anyone willing to check,” he said.
