…Holds Primaries Friday
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Anambra State has dismissed the threat and boast of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the coalition of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) to the fortunes of the party in the 2027 general elections.
This is even as the party stated that those coalitions would come to nothing, assuring that the party is coasting to victory.
This is coming as the ruling APC is set to conduct primaries for the National and State Assembly this Friday, May 15.
According to the State Organising Security of the party and Chairman Elections Committee, Mr Izuchukwu Okeke, “Those threats are empty threats,” adding that the party is very much on ground to dust other political parties in the area.
“We are not losing sleep about the 2027 elections, and those NDC or fractional PDP and APM alliances are more of empty threats because we are the ones that are on the ground and they are not on the ground”, he said.
Okeke announced that the party is going to organise the most peaceful, credible and transparent primary elections this Friday, adding that in some areas, the consensus couldn’t work, the party would go for direct primary elections.
“We are going to organise transparent primary elections, and we must make sure that the primaries are transparent and anyone who wins would know that they won, and those who did not win would also know that they did not win in a free, fair and transparent primary election.
“We are doing both direct primary elections and also consensus primary elections.
“In some places where they could not agree on a consensus, we shall conduct direct primary elections, and in other areas where they agreed, we adopt the consensus.
“The aspirants would, among themselves, elect who would take the ticket of the party and all other aspirants would agree and sign to that.
“I want you to rule out the fears of someone going out there to protest against the consensus candidate because our party has APC have come a long way, and we have been a peaceful party, and we know how to manage ourselves.”
On the number of aspirants that purchased forms for the primary elections, Okeke explained that all the forms for the primary elections were sold out, adding that the party is set for the elections.
“All eleven seats of the Federal House of Representatives and the Senate have aspirants for the primary elections.
“Also, for the state House of Assembly, we sold out all our forms for the primary elections.
“We are very confident that our party the APC, would win in the coming general elections, and we are not moved or worried about whatever alliance or alliances that may be,” he said.
