Alia Cleared To Contest Gov’ship Election Under APC

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been officially certified to contest the primaries for nomination as a candidate for the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the party.

The screening exercise was conducted at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, the venue for incumbent Governors.

The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, chaired the screening committee constituted to assess aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.

The Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the party primaries were procured for Governor Hyacinth Alia by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Benue Chapter and the Benue State Motorcycle Association (BEMOA).

Leadership of the two unions pointed to the massive turnaround in the state’s fortunes and the human face nature of Governor Alia’s administration as reasons they want him back to Government House to consolidate the gains.

The certification of the Governor is widely regarded by political observers and stakeholders as a significant milestone in the consolidation of his political standing within the APC, especially in view of ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, in a statement, said the governor, whose administration has consistently emphasised infrastructural renewal, security enhancement, civil service reforms, and social welfare interventions across Benue State, emerged from the screening process successfully after satisfying the constitutional and party requirements stipulated by the APC.

“The certification also signals the commencement of heightened political activities within the APC as preparations gradually gather momentum toward the 2027 electoral cycle.

“Governor Hyacinth Alia was elected governor of Benue State in 2023 under the APC platform and has since maintained a visible presence in the state’s political and governance landscape”.
