Former Nigerian Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigeria needs genuine change to solve its socio-economic challenges.
Atiku, who spoke at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Convention in Abuja on Tuesday, lamented the bad leadership the All Progressives Congress (APC) inflicted on the country.
He recalled that he joined the APC to bring good leadership to the country, but regretted that the nation has regressed since 2015, when the APC took over the leadership of the country.
“I remember when the APC was being formed, the entire political leadership in this country came to my house.
They said, ‘If you don’t come into the APC, this is not going to be possible.’
“They literally compelled me to join the APC. Only for us to enter the APC, our economy is gone, our sovereignty is gone, our security is gone, our education is gone, and our infrastructure is gone. The healthcare is gone,” Atiku stated.
He called on Nigerians to rise and make sure that there is genuine change to rectify all these challenges that are happening in the country.
The former vice president assured that the ADC government would change the fortunes of the country, fight corruption in government and tackle the security challenges.
Atiku accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan of undermining democracy in Nigeria.
He reminded the APC-led Federal Government that Nigerians fought the military to bring democracy in the country, and therefore will continue to fight to defend it.
