The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the proposed construction of a federal housing estate in Umuahia, the state capital.
The APC went on to call on Governor Alex Otti to take a cue from the Federal Government by considering the construction of a similar housing estate in Aba, in order to ease the housing challenges confronting residents of the commercial city.
The party notes that, upon completion by the APC-led federal government, the housing estate will significantly address the high cost of rent, which has made Umuahia one of the most expensive cities to live in.
Uche Aguoru, Publicity Secretary, APC Abia State, said that the party is optimistic that the project will help reduce the housing deficit and alleviate the challenges faced by Abia people, particularly residents of the state capital.
The APC also commended the Abia State Government for partnering with the federal government by providing land for the important project.
The party, however, urged Governor Alex Otti to ensure that all landowners affected by the project are adequately compensated.
Aguoru said, “This will help prevent the frustrations and grievances being experienced by citizens who donated their properties in Nsulu and Ukwa, respectively,” referring to two Abia government projects in the mentioned areas.
“We also call on Abians to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration, as he has consistently demonstrated goodwill and a genuine commitment to the development of Abia State.”
He said this goodwill and genuine commitment are evident in the provision of infrastructure, strategic federal appointments, and the siting of key federal institutions and agencies in the state, despite its opposition status.
“Accordingly, we urge Abians to reciprocate this show of goodwill by aligning with the vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda and to sustain these gains by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.”
