Gov Otu Hails Deputy At 52, Praises Loyalty, Service

Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has paid a glowing tribute to his Deputy, Dr Peter Odey, on the occasion of his 52nd birthday, describing him as a remarkably loyal lieutenant, an accomplished statesman, and a selfless leader whose steadfast commitment to duty has profoundly enriched the administration’s governance philosophy and developmental aspirations.

In a congratulatory message issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Linus Obogo, the governor extolled his Deputy’s uncommon virtues of loyalty, humility, diligence, and unwavering dedication to the service of Cross River State, noting that Dr Odey has remained a dependable partner in the collective pursuit of prosperity, stability, and inclusive development.

Governor Otu said the birthday celebration offers an opportunity not merely to commemorate the passage of time but to honour a man whose life has become synonymous with fidelity, integrity, discipline, and purposeful public service.

“Today, I celebrate not just a Deputy Governor, but a trusted brother, a dependable confidant, and an extraordinary public servant whose loyalty has remained unshaken, whose commitment has remained unquestionable, and whose devotion to the service of our people continues to inspire all who have the privilege of associating with him,” the governor stated.

He further described Dr Odey as a leader endowed with uncommon wisdom and emotional intelligence, whose calm disposition, measured judgment, and thoughtful counsel have contributed immensely to the stability and success of the administration.

“Throughout our journey in government, Dr Peter Odey has distinguished himself as a man of grace and substance. In moments requiring courage, he has been steadfast. In moments demanding patience, he has been calm. In moments requiring wisdom, he has been insightful. His counsel has consistently reflected maturity, depth, and an abiding commitment to the greater good of Cross River State.”

The Governor observed that beyond the formal responsibilities of office, the Deputy Governor has become a symbol of loyalty and teamwork, exemplifying the highest ideals of collaborative leadership.

“In an era where personal ambition often competes with collective responsibility, Dr Odey has remained an enduring example of selflessness and institutional loyalty. He has demonstrated that true leadership is not measured by personal acclaim but by the ability to support a shared vision, strengthen institutions, and contribute meaningfully to the success of government and the welfare of the people.”

Otu noted that Dr Odey’s humility, accessibility, and genuine concern for the well-being of ordinary citizens have endeared him to communities across the state and earned him the admiration of stakeholders and development partners alike.

“His humanity is as remarkable as his intellect. His compassion is as profound as his competence. He possesses that rare ability to connect with people across social, political, and cultural divides. These qualities have made him not only an effective Deputy Governor but also a beloved son of Cross River State whose contributions will continue to resonate far beyond the corridors of government.”

The Governor further commended Odey’s dedication to the administration’s People-First agenda, describing him as a reliable pillar whose efforts have helped deepen public confidence in government and accelerate the implementation of key developmental initiatives across the state.

According to him, “Dr Odey has consistently brought energy, vision, and sincerity to every assignment entrusted to him. His work ethic is exemplary, his sense of duty unwavering, and his commitment to excellence unmistakable. Cross River State is richer for his service and stronger because of his contributions.”

As Dr Odey marks his 52nd birthday, Governor Otu offered prayers for greater accomplishments in the years ahead.

“As you celebrate this distinguished milestone, I join your beloved family, friends, associates, and millions of Cross Riverians in thanking Almighty God for the gift of your life and service. May He continue to bless you with robust health, greater wisdom, renewed strength, divine favour, and abundant grace. May your years ahead be crowned with even greater accomplishments, fulfilment, and opportunities to serve humanity.”

The Governor described his Deputy as “one of the finest examples of loyalty, honour, and purposeful leadership in contemporary public service,” wishing him many more years of impactful stewardship and enduring relevance in the service of God, Cross River State, and the nation.
