Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has criticised the ratification of former President Goodluck Jonathan by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its 2027 presidential candidate.
He described the move as politically expedient and coming too late to make a meaningful impact.
Sani made the remarks on Monday in a post on his official X handle while reacting to the adoption of Jonathan.
Questioning the timing of the move, the former lawmaker argued that those now rallying behind Jonathan failed to support him when the party was in a stronger position and better placed to mount a serious electoral challenge.

“If they actually wanted GEJ, they should have fielded him in 2023 when the party was relatively alive and in good shape,” Sani wrote.
He suggested that the latest effort was less about offering Jonathan a genuine path back to power and more about leveraging his political stature to revive a weakened platform.
“They just now want him to help them carry the coffin,” he added.
The former senator’s remarks add to the ongoing controversy surrounding the internal divisions within the PDP and the struggle among competing factions to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
