Kano PDP Affirms Jonathan Candidature

The Kano State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reviewed the national executive’s decision regarding the presidential candidacy of former President Goodluck Jonathan and strongly aligned themselves with the decision.

Speaking as the State Elected Chairman of the Party, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, stated that, “We acknowledge and respect the processes that led to this decision of choosing Good Luck Jonathan as the Presidential Candidate of our Party, and we affirm our support for the National Leaders’ right to determine the party’s national trajectory, within the framework of our constitution and legal guidelines.”

Kibiya added that their regional chapter remains aligned with the party’s broad objectives and will engage in constructive dialogue to advance PDP’s mission across Kano and Nigeria.

He affirmed that PDP is committed to being a credible, competitive, and formidable force in Kano State and in national politics.

“We are the party with a proven track record of resilience, reform, and public service. We will work tirelessly to earn the votes and trust of the Kano people and to deliver policies that create jobs, improve security, and enhance essential services.

He said that together, they will continue to build a PDP that is democratic, inclusive, and focused on delivering real progress for all communities in Kano State.

“I speak as the Elected Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State with a clear and unwavering commitment to our shared democratic ideals, unity, and progress for all our people.

“We acknowledge that some stakeholders have unfortunately chosen to move away from the PDP to the APC.”

He notes that the PDP in Kano State remains solid, cohesive, and firmly rooted in its shared values and objectives.

“Our focus remains on delivering governance that will improve the lives of Kano people, upholding democratic norms, and building a robust party structure that can win responsibly and govern effectively. We commend all participants for the peaceful and orderly conduct observed during the recent party primaries.”

The PDP in Kano State emphasises internal democracy, transparency, and respect for due process, and the Party primaries reflect the maturity and discipline that our members bring to the political arena, and they reinforce the public’s confidence in our democratic process.

“We condemned the disruption at the National PDP venue for the special National Convention in Abuja venue where the National PDP’s mini-convention was to present its presidential flag. We condemn in the strongest terms the disruption and blocking of access to the venue.

He said the action undermines the principles of democracy, free association, and constitutional rights that Nigeria’s political system is built upon, and such conduct poses a threat to the peaceful, inclusive, and competitive nature of our democracy.

The PDP calls on all actors to uphold the rule of law, to respect civil liberties, and to pursue political engagement through lawful, peaceful, and constructive means.

“I urge for unity, discipline, and sustained engagement with the citizenry. Our strength lies in our collective commitment to democratic values for good governance, accountability, and service.

“We remain open to dialogue with stakeholders across Kano and Nigeria, as we chart a path that advances peace, fairness, and development for all.
