Former aspirant for Plateau North Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator I.D. Gyang, has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to ensure justice prevails in the aftermath of the controversial APC Primary Election in Plateau North.
Gyang, in a statement issued in Jos on Saturday by the Director General of his Campaign Council, Comrade Lot Adas, expressed deep concern over what he described as the absence of a credible primary election in the zone, alleging that the democratic rights of party members were undermined.
According to the statement, the APC faithful in Plateau North were denied the opportunity to freely and fairly elect their preferred candidate through a transparent democratic process, a development he warned could erode confidence in the party’s internal democratic structures.
The campaign council maintained that democracy thrives on fairness, due process, and the sanctity of the people’s mandate, stressing that any attempt to impose outcomes contrary to the wishes of party members threatens the unity and credibility of the ruling party.
Gyang further alleged that no genuine senatorial primary election was conducted in Plateau North, claiming that results were fabricated and allocated to favour a predetermined candidate.
“It is public knowledge that the Senatorial primary elections were not conducted in Plateau North. Rather, results were concocted and allocated to suit a predetermined outcome.
“It would therefore be injurious to good conscience and contrary to the fear of God for anyone to assert otherwise,” the statement read.
The former lawmaker emphasised that the strength of the APC lies in its grassroots membership, whose voices and votes, he said, must never be replaced by political arrangements designed to produce predetermined outcomes.
While expressing confidence in the leadership of the party, the campaign council noted that the National Chairman of the APC had already indicated that the National Working Committee was reviewing reports submitted by the Appeal Committee on the conduct of the National Assembly primaries across the country.
The statement expressed optimism that the party’s national leadership would act in the interest of justice and fairness after examining all reports before it.
Gyang urged his supporters and APC members across Plateau North to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant while awaiting the decision of the National Working Committee.
“Our position remains firmly rooted in the defence of justice, equity, and the democratic rights of APC members and the people of Plateau North,” the statement added.
